Etymology
Literally, “We belong to God and to him we shall return”. From Quran 2:156.
Phrase
إنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَإنَّا إلَيْهِ راجِعُون • (ʔinnā lillāhi waʔinnā ʔilayhi rājiʕūn)
- (Islam) Said in response to the news of someone’s death or as an expression of condolence; less often it may also be said for any other sort of negative occurrence.
