1. (Christianity, Islam) Christ; the Messiah (Jesus of Nazareth)
   • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 3:45:

     إِنَّ اللَّهَ يُبَشِّرُكِ بِكَلِمَةٍ مِنْهُ اسْمُهُ ٱلْمَسِيحُ عِيسَى ابْنُ مَرْيَمَ

     ...of a Word from Him, his name will be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary; honoured in this world and the Hereafter, and he will be one of those nearest to Allah.

2. (Judaism) the awaited Messiah

• Since Jesus is called يَسُوع (yasūʕ) by Christians and عِيسَى (ʕīsā) by Muslims, just اَلْمَسِيح (al-masīḥ) is often used wherever a neutral term accepted by both religions is intended.
