Inherited from Proto-Oghuz *ǖš-, contraction of Proto-Turkic *üy-iš-, itself a derivation from Proto-Turkic *üy-.

  1. (intransitive) to swarm, to gather around, to rally around, to gather in a place as a group, usually around something to consume or take advantage of
    • 1330, Âşık Paşa, Garib-nâme, line 2824:
      جُنْكِمْ اُولْ نِعْمَتْ تَمَامْ قَیْنَرْ بِشَرْ
      اُولْ بِشِنْجَه خَاسُ عَام اَنْدَه اُشَرْ
      çünkim ol niʾmet temām qaynar bişer
      ol bişince ḫās-u ʾām anda üşer
      for that food completely boils and gets cooked
      when it is cooked everyone far and near swarms there
