باروق
Arabic
Etymology
Believed in the Middle Ages to be the native Arabic word in opposition to synonymous Persianate سِبِيدَاج (sibīdāj), but of an Aramaic shape, so probably from the same source word as بَرْوَق (barwaq, “asphodel”), more likely than akin to Persianate بَوْرَق (bawraq, “borax”).
