Etymology
From Coptic ⲃⲉⲣⲥⲓⲙ (bersim, “Egyptian clover”), itself suggested a Middle Iranian borrowing, equalling Persian برسم (barsam, barsom) meaning a “bundle of twigs” of uncertain botanical identity brandished by Zoroastrians during recitation.
