Etymology

Inherited from Middle Hindi بھاپھہ (bhaphh /⁠bhāph⁠/) (c. 1419) and later as بھاپ (bhap /⁠bhāp⁠/),[1] from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀩𑀧𑁆𑀨 (bappha), from Sanskrit वाष्प (vāṣpa, tear).[2]
