Etymology

  • In the Asjadi poem, corruption of تانول. Attested as تان (tân, “mouth”) +‎ تول (tul, “crooked”).
  • By surface analysis, clipping of تاتوله (tâtule), an alternative form of تاتوره (tâture, “Datura”). Perhaps influenced by or related to these terms.
