Persian

Etymology

Learned borrowing from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (hwytw(k)ds /xwēdodah/), borrowed from Avestan 𐬓𐬀𐬉𐬙𐬎𐬎𐬀𐬛𐬀𐬚𐬀 (xᵛaētuuadaθa). The earlier Persian Revayats do not use this spelling but rather خیتودت (xitudat), خویدیودت (xidyudat), خویتودث (xitudas), etc.
