Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tep-. Compare Turkmen depmek, Karakhanid تبماك (tepmek), Yakut тэп (tep), Crimean Tatar tepmek, Kazakh тебу (tebu), Kyrgyz тебүү (tebüü), Uzbek tepmoq, Uyghur تەپمەك (tepmek).
