Etymology

Borrowed from Arabic رَوْضَة (rawḍa, “garden”). The religious sense is generalized from the title of the book (rowzat-oš-šohadâ, “Garden of the Martyrs”), an extremely popular work describing the tragedy at Karbala written by Husayn Kâshefi (lived 1436—1504).
