From Coptic ϫⲉⲗϥⲁⲧ (čelfat), ⲥⲗⲃⲟⲧ (slbot). The form شِلْبَا (šilbā) appears most classical, compare also Ancient Greek σάλπη (sálpē), but in Egyptian Arabic the length is not pronounced.
