Etymology

Formally from the root ص ح ف (ṣ ḥ f), but related to ص ح ن (ṣ ḥ n), ص ف ح (ṣ f ḥ). Compare also Qatabanian 𐩮𐩢𐩰𐩩 (ṣḥft) and Minaean 𐩮𐩢𐩰𐩩 (ṣḥft) meaning a moat or lower part of a fortification.
