From Classical Arabic صَيْدُون (ṣaydūn), from Classical Syriac ܨܰܝܕ݁ܳܢ (ṣaydon) from Phoenician 𐤑𐤉𐤃𐤅𐤍 (ṣydwn /⁠ṣīdūn⁠/). Cognate with Aramaic ܨܝܕܘܢ (ṣīdōn), Hebrew צִידוֹן (ṣīḏōn), Ancient Greek Σιδών (Sidṓn), Latin Sīdōn.
