Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tuluŋ (temple; braid or plait of hair);[1] cognate with Bashkir толом (tolom), Kazakh тұлым (tūlym), Khakas тулунъ (tulunʺ), Kyrgyz тулум (tulum), Shor тулуң (tuluñ) and Southern Altai тулуҥ (tuluŋ).

  1. temple, the slightly flatter region, on either side of the human head, behind the eye and forehead, and forward of the ear
