Inherited from Proto-Turkic *toy (“camp; gathering; feast”);[1] cognate with Bashkir туй (tuy), Chuvash туй (tuj), Kazakh той (toi), Kyrgyz той (toy), Turkmen toý, Uyghur توي (toy), Uzbek toʻy and Yakut той (toy).
