لایه

Persian

Etymology

Likely related to آلای (âlây-, (originally) to smear; (modern) to stain, to pollute), which is from Proto-Iranian *dauH- (to smear; to rub).[1] Compare Sogdian δʾw (plastering). The word is not common in classical texts. Unrelated to English layer.
