Etymology

Unknown, the local word of the narrow strip of Greater Syria where the genus is common along banks of streams to 1500 m. The ancient Hebrew and Aramaic (or even Arabic) terms are unknown. Later Hebrew designates לִבְנֶה (lib̄né) for this tree.
