From Middle Persian [script needed] (anōšēn, ambrosial, sweet), from 𐭠𐭭𐭥𐭱 (anōš, ambrosia) + [script needed] (-ēn), from Old Persian *anauša- (immortal), from Proto-Iranian *an-auša- (immortal). Compare Persian انوشه (anuše, a, immortal) and Persian نوشیدن (nušidan, to drink).
