Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit *𑀦𑀺𑀘𑁆𑀘𑁄𑀟𑁂𑀤𑀺 (*niccoḍedi), from Sanskrit *निश्चोटयति (*niścoṭayati), from निस्- (nis-, “out”) + चुट् (cuṭ, “to cut off”).[1]
