Usage notes
- The Pashto loan پوهنتون (pōhantūn, “university”) has become common in Afghanistan following the Pashtunization policies of successive Pashtun-dominated governments, although the native دانشگاه (dānišgāh) is also often used. The choice between پوهنتون (pōhantūn) and دانشگاه (dānišgāh) has been politically controversial, with the former sometimes being seen as a Pashtun imposition upon Persian speakers.
