Uncertain.
Read in Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kaẟō). In Gilaki کوی (kūī, “gourd; bowl, vessel, stop”). Possibly related to Sanskrit कटु (kaṭu, “bitter”), or a variant reflex of کندو (kandū, “beehive; a large clay bin for grain”) extended from Aramaic כּדּא (kaddā), כַּנְדָּא (kandā), from Old Tamil 𑀓𑀺𑀡𑁰𑀝𑀺 (kiṇṭi).
