Borrowed from Classical Persian گُلِسْتَان (gulistān). First attested in c. 1611 as Middle Hindi گلستان (glstan /⁠gulistān⁠/).[1] By surface analysis, گُل (gul, flower) +‎ ـِسْتَان (-istān).
