1. (Islam) used in the Qur'an, indicating that the reciter should follow the example of the prophet Muhammad in prostrating himself before Allah at that point in the verse.
   • 1424 AH / 2003–2004 CE, “رِوَايَةُ هٰذَا الۡمُصۡحَفِ وَمُصۡطَلَحَاتُ رَسۡمِهِ وَضَبۡطِهِ وَعَدُّ آيِهِ [riwāyatu hāḏā l-muṣḥafi wamuṣṭalaḥātu rasmihi waḍabṭihi waʕaddu ʔāyihi]”, in مُصۡحَفُ الۡمَدِينَةِ النَّبَوِيَّةِ [muṣḥafu l-madīnati n-nabawiyyati] (in Arabic), King Fahd Complex for the Printing of the Holy Quran, page ح:

     وَوَضۡعُ هٰذِهِ الۡعَلَامَةِ «۩» بَعۡدَ كَلِمَةٍ یَدُلُّ عَلَىٰ مَوۡضِعِ السَّجۡدَةِ نَحۡوُ: وَلِلَّهِ یَسۡجُدُ مَا فِی ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰ⁠تِ وَمَا فِی ٱلۡأَرۡضِ مِن دَاۤبَّةࣲ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ وَهُمۡ لَا یَسۡتَكۡبِرُونَ ۝٤٩ یَخَافُونَ رَبَّهُم مِّن فَوۡقِهِمۡ وَیَفۡعَلُونَ مَا یُؤۡمَرُونَ ۩ ۝٥٠
