ܐܠܩܘܫ

Assyrian Neo-Aramaic

Etymology

Unknown, suggested to be borrowed from Akkadian [script needed] (il qaštum, literally god of the bow/righteouness). From 𒀭 (il, god of) + 𒄑𒉼 (qaštum, bow, righteousness, power). A local tradition claims it is named after ‘Alqon’, a Jew said to have been deported there by the ancient Assyrians.
