Etymology

Inherited from Aramaic דָּרְתָּא (dārtā, atrium, court); cognate to Arabic دَارَة (dāra). The sense of “halo” is a semantic loan from Akkadian 𒉣𒇬 (tarbāṣu), also loaned into Classical Syriac ܬܪܒܨܐ (ṭarbāṣā).
