From Aramaic זוּלְבָּנָא (zulbānā); related to Mishnaic Hebrew זוּבָּן (zubbān, “the bag that contains a male animal's member”) and Tigrinya / Tigre ዝባን (zəban, “back”), all of unknown origin, and possibly by dissimilation to Tigre and Ge'ez ዘነብ (zänäb, “tail”).
