ܣܚܐ

Assyrian Neo-Aramaic

Etymology

Root
ܣ ܚ ܐ (s ḥ ˀ)
3 terms

Compare Hebrew שָׂחָה (sakhá). The second usage, “to shower,” has developed a gendered-based usage with the verb ܚܵܐܸܦ (ḥāˀip), used mostly for females. This is because the other verb originally mainly meant “to wash hair,” which is done by women more often than men, and ultimately the two verbs developed into gender-based usages.

Pronunciation

Verb

ܣܵܚܹܐ • (sāḥē)
