From the root ܦ ܪ ܕ related to dispersing. Compare Akkadian 𒉿𒊑𒅔𒁺 (pirindu, “vegetable foodstuff”), Arabic فَرْدَة (farda) and بَذْرَة (baḏra), and Hebrew פְּרֵדָה (pərēḏâ).
