From Aramaic תַּרְתַעֵסְרֶא (tarṯaʿesrē). Equivalent to ܬܲܪܬܹܝܢ (tartēn, “two”) +‎ ܥܸܣܲܪ (ˁissar, “ten”); compare Arabic اِثْنَتَا عَشْرَةَ (iṯnatā ʕašrata) and Hebrew שְׁתֵּים עֶשְׂרֵה (shtém 'esré).
