From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hápsas, ultimately reflecting Proto-Indo-European *h₂épsos, from the root *h₂ep- (“to fasten”); compare Ossetian ӕфцӕг (æfcæg), Tocharian A āpsā (“limbs”), Hittite [script needed] (ḫappeššar-, “limb, joint, part of the body”).[1]
