From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hápsas, ultimately reflecting Proto-Indo-European *h₂épsos, from the root *h₂ep- (to fasten); compare Ossetian ӕфцӕг (æfcæg), Tocharian A āpsā (limbs), Hittite [script needed] (ḫappeššar-, limb, joint, part of the body).[1]
