Borrowed from Classical Persian چشمه (čašma, spring, source; spectacles), related to چشم (čašm, eye), itself ultimately from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čáćšma (sight). Related to Sanskrit चक्षु (cakṣu). Other borrowings from Persian are Assamese চছমা (sosoma), Bengali চশমা (cośma), Punjabi ਚਸ਼ਮਾ (caśmā), Gujarati ચશ્માં (caśmā̃), Marathi चष्मा (caṣmā).
