Inherited from Prakrit *छोक्कर (chŏkkara) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-). Related to छोरा (chorā) and dialectal छोहरा (chohrā). Cognate with Bengali ছোকরা (chōkra), Gujarati છોકરો (chokro), and Sindhi छोकिरो (chokiro) / ڇوڪِرو (chokiro).
