Etymology
From तेलंगाना (telaṅgānā, “Telangana”) + -आ (-ā, demonym).
The East India Company bought the Northern Circars (in the geographical region of Telangana) in 1823 from the Hyderabad State. This was the first area from which Indian soldiers were recruited to serve the British.
