From Proto-Indo-Iranian *púšćas (“tail”), from Proto-Indo-European *puḱ-so-s (“tail”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬞𐬎𐬯𐬀 (pusa), Persian فش (foš, “tail”), English fox.
