Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘢𑘹𑘚𑘰 (peḍā), from Prakrit 𑀧𑁂𑀟 (peḍa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-). Cognate with Gujarati પેંડો (peṇḍo), Hindustani پیڑَا / पेड़ा (peṛā), Punjabi ਪੇੜਾ / پیڑا (peṛā), Odia ପେଡା (peḍā), ପେଣ୍ଡା (peṇḍā), Bengali পেঁড়া (pẽṛa).
