Etymology
Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘫𑘲𑘽𑘢𑘜𑘹 (śīṃpaṇe), 𑘭𑘲𑘽𑘢𑘜𑘹 (sīṃpaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀲𑀺𑀁𑀧𑀇 (siṃpaï), derived from the present participle 𑀲𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀁𑀢 (sippaṃta), ultimately from Sanskrit सिक्त (siktá).[1] Displaced Old Marathi 𑘭𑘲𑘽𑘓𑘜𑘹 (sīṃcaṇe) from Sanskrit सिञ्चति (siñcáti).[2] Compare Gujarati સીપવું (sīpvũ).
