Inherited from Magadhi Prakrit 𑀖𑀺𑀅 (ghia), from Sanskrit ঘৃত (ghṛta). Cognate with Assamese ঘিঁউ (ghĩu), Bhojpuri 𑂐𑂲𑂫 (ghīv), Maithili घी (ghī) / घीव (ghīv), Rohingya gíi.
