Umlaut of দিয়াশলাই (diẏaslai), from Prakrit *𑀤𑀻𑀯𑀰𑀮𑀸𑀬𑀸 (*dīvaśalāyā), from Sanskrit दीपशलाका (dīpaśalākā), from दीप (dīpa, light) +‎ शलाका (śalākā, stick). Cognate with Assamese দিয়াচলাই (diasolai).
