Inherited from Prakrit *𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀓𑁆𑀓 (*aṭṭakka). Related to અટકવું (aṭakvũ, “to stop”).[1] Cognate with Bengali আটক (aṭok), Hindi अटक (aṭak), Marathi अटकें (aṭkẽ), Sindhi اَٽَڪ (aṭak).
