Inherited from Old Gujarati जु (ju), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀚𑁄 (jo), from Sanskrit यः (yáḥ). The -e derived from Sanskrit एष (eṣa).[1] Cognate with Hindustani जो / جو (jo).
