Inherited from Prakrit 𑀛𑀸𑀁𑀝𑀻 (jhāṃṭī), from Sanskrit *झाण्ट (*jhāṇṭa). Doublet of જટા (jaṭā). Cognate with Assamese জটা (zota), Hindustani جھانٹ / झाँट (jhā̃ṭ), Marathi झांट (jhāṇṭa), and Sindhi جَهنڊِ (jhanḍi).
