From Prakrit *𑀞𑀼𑀡𑁆𑀟 (*ṭhuṇḍa). Related to Sanskrit तुण्ड (tuṇḍa).[1] Cognate with Hindi ठुड्डी (ṭhuḍḍī), Nepali ठुँड़ो (ṭhũṛo), Odia ଠୁଣ୍ଡି (ṭhuṇḍi).
