પેઢી
Gujarati
Etymology
Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀧𑁂𑀟𑁆𑀠 (*peḍḍha) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-), likely from a substrate. Related to Sanskrit पीठ (pīṭha, “stool, bench”) whence પીઢિયું (pīḍhiyũ, “beam”). Cognate with Hindustani पीढ़ी / پِیڑھی (pīṛhī), Marathi पेढी (peḍhī), Punjabi پیڑھی / ਪੀੜ੍ਹੀ (pīṛhī), Sindhi پيڍِي / पेढी (peḍhī).
