ભેજું
Gujarati
Etymology
From Prakrit 𑀪𑁂𑀚𑁆𑀚𑁆 (bhĕjj), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *mazǰʰā́, from Proto-Indo-European *mosgʰḗn. Related to Sanskrit मज्जन् (majjan). Doublet of મગજ (magaj). Cognate to Hindi भेजा (bhejā), Punjabi ਭੇੱਜਾ (bhejjā).
More information
The phonetic changes between Indo-Iranian and Gujarati are irregular, and possibly the result of taboo deformation, according to Turner. It is also probably partially due to New Indo-Aryan languages preserving the aspiration in the Indo-Iranian *zǰʰ cluster, which was lost in Sanskrit. A possible development of the Gujarati form from Proto-Indo-Iranian is *mazǰʰ- > *mejjh- > *mhĕjj- (through metathesis of the aspiration) > bhej-.
