Borrowed from Classical Persian حديث (hadīs), from Arabic حَدِيث (ḥadīṯ, “story, news”). Compare Assamese হাদিছ (hadis), Bengali হাদিস (hadiś), Hindi हदीस (hadīs), Punjabi ਹਦੀਸ (hadīs).
