Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *yaṇṭ-. Cognate with Tamil நண்டு (naṇṭu), Telugu ఎండ్రి (eṇḍri), Malayalam ഞണ്ട് (ñaṇṭŭ), Tulu ದೆಂಜಿ (deñji), Kolami ఎండె (eṇḍe).
