Etymology

From யாழ் (yāḻ, “yazh, harp”) +‎ பாணம் (pāṇam, from பாணன் (pāṇaṉ, “bard, musician”)), named for the yazh playing blind bard whose talent delighted the king Ukkirasinghan, who was the ruler of Jaffna at that time.
