Etymology
Borrowed from Pali kaṭhina (“embroidery hoop”). Cognate with Old Khmer kathœṇa (“cloth given to monks for the making of robes; annual festival during which such cloth is given to monks”); Modern Khmer កថិន (kɑthən), កឋិន (kɑthən); Lao ກະຖິນ (ka thin); Burmese ကထိန် (ka.htin).
