Compound of ข้าว (kâao, “rice”) + ใหม่ (mài, “new”) + ปลา (bplaa, “fish”) + มัน (man, “fat”), literally “new rice, fat fish”; referring to the rice harvested in the early months of the year and the fish captured in the low water season, during which fish are usually fleshy, thus considered very new and impressive.[1]
