Etymology
From Old Khmer ថ្វាយ (thvāya), ថ្វាយ៑ (thvāy), តវាយ (tâvāya), ត្វាយ៑ (tvāy), ថ្វៃ (thvai, “to make an offering, present, or make a gift (to gods, royalty, etc)”); or from Old Mon တွာဲ (twāy, “to present (to a king)”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨳ᩠ᩅ᩻ᩣ᩠ᨿ, Modern Khmer ថ្វាយ (thvaay). Extended as Thai ดงวาย, ตังวาย.
